The State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka (SPC) inaugurated its newest State Osusala branch in Batticaloa on October 31, marking the 67th addition to the nationwide State Osusala network. The new branch has been established with the primary aim of providing the public with high-quality, reliable medicines at affordable and fair prices.
With the guidance of experienced and professionally qualified pharmacists, the Batticaloa State Osusala will offer a wide range of essential pharmaceutical products, ensuring improved accessibility to safe and standard healthcare for local communities.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Hon. Arun Hemachandra, graced the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance were Batticaloa District Secretary J.S. Arulraj, Mayor of the Batticaloa Municipal Council Pakkiam Sivanathan, Commissioner N. Dhananjayan, Batticaloa Regional Director of Health Services Dr. R. Muraleeswaran, and Dean of the Faculty of Healthcare Sciences of the Eastern University Dr. S. Thillainathan.
The President of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation, Mr. Manuj C. Weerasinghe, and Managing Director Mr. Mevan Sampath Subasinghe Arachchi, along with SPC officials, government representatives, and local business community members, also joined the occasion.
Speaking at the event, officials highlighted that the opening of the Batticaloa State Osusala reflects the governmentโs continued commitment to strengthening the national healthcare supply chain, reducing the cost of medicines, and supporting public well-being through reliable access to essential drugs.
The SPC noted that further expansions are planned across the country to ensure that quality medicines remain accessible and affordable for all citizens.
