Google Grants Sri Lankan Students Free Access to Gemini Advanced Features

Colombo, Sept. 29 – In a landmark announcement, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy, Eranga Weeraratne, revealed today that Google will provide Sri Lankan students with free access to its Gemini advanced features and a range of additional benefits under its global student offer.

Speaking at the “Future of AI Begins Today” conference this morning, the Deputy Minister shared the news, highlighting the successful outcome of months of collaboration between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Google.

“I am excited to announce the news that I received just this morning. Google has agreed to provide their student offer with Gemini advanced features and other benefits for Sri Lankan students free of cost. This is a game changer,” he said.

According to Deputy Minister Weeraratne, the initiative will enable every student across the country to access world-class AI tools, cloud platforms, and learning resources at no cost. He emphasised that the move marks a major step forward in Sri Lanka’s efforts to embrace digital transformation and ensure equal opportunities for students nationwide.

The announcement comes at a crucial time, as Sri Lanka accelerates its digital economy strategy and prioritizes education in preparing the next generation for an AI-driven future.
